Domaine Nicole Lamarche
Burgundy, France
The Lamarche family roots in Burgundy date back to the late 1700s, though Nicole’s oversight of the estate began in 2013. After inheriting an exceptional lineup of vineyard sites from her father, Nicole brought a number of changes to the winery, including changing the name of the estate (to reflect her own) and the design of each cuvée’s label.
Since 2010, all farming has been done organically—and with regards to vineyard sites, Nicole farms in some of the most sought-after appellations in Burgundy, including Vosne-Romanée, Grands-Echezeaux, Clos de Vougeot, and the monopole La Grande Rue, which comprises 1.65 hectares and is located just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Today, Domaine Lamarche comprises just over 11 hectares in total, with 14 cuvées produced annually.
Come harvest, all fruit is hand harvested and sorted in the vineyards, then sorted a second time in the cellar. Each cuvée is carefully vinified and aged for 14-20 months in oak (60-100% new, depending on the wine), and all wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. In addition to her prestigious Pinot Noirs, Nicole also makes a small amount of Chardonnay and Aligoté, as well as a Passetoutgrains produced from a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay. Nicole’s wines are known for their profound aromatics, refined flavor profiles, and profound ability to drink beautifully both in their youth and after long bouts of cellar aging.
