Stella di Campalto

Tuscany, Italy

Stella di Campalto is a force to be reckoned with. She established her namesake winery back in 1992, which is located in the former estate of Podere San Giuseppe. The Montalcino-based property fell into abandonment after the Second World War, though with the help of her family—and her signature unwavering determination—Stella brought the estate and its vineyards back to life.

A fervent believer in organic and biodynamic farming, Stella has been cultivating her vines as such since the mid-1990s and early 2000s, respectively—far before doing so was fashionable or trendy. Her 13 hectares of vines are planted at soaring altitudes of up to 1,000+ feet, and are situated within some of the region’s top vineyards, including Vigna al Sasso, Vigna al Lecchio, and beyond. Stella oversees all facets of viticulture and cellar work, both of which are meticulously done by hand. In the gravity-fed cellar, all wines are vinified with native yeasts, with nothing added or taken away from the process.

Post-aging in a combination of oak barriques and botti, Stella holds her wines back for additional bottle aging, and only releases them when she feels that they are ready. The resulting wines are high-toned, pure, and simply put, exceptional; it’s only logical that these have become some of the most sought-after bottles coming out of Tuscany today!
